Social media image size cheatsheet (2026)
Every platform crops differently. Use the recommended upload sizes below — posts, stories, banners, and thumbnails for the seven major social networks — so your designs never get cut off or stretched.
| Asset | Recommended size | Aspect ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Post (portrait) | 1080 × 1350 px | 4:5 | Maximum vertical size without cropping in-feed. |
| Post (square) | 1080 × 1080 px | 1:1 | The classic default; displayed as 640 × 640 on desktop. |
| Post (landscape) | 1080 × 566 px | 1.91:1 | Anything wider is cropped automatically. |
| Story / Reel cover | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | Keep key content within the center 1080 × 1420 safe area. |
| Profile picture | 320 × 320 px | 1:1 | Uploaded at 320 px, displayed as a 110 px circle. |
Export tips that keep images sharp
- Export at 2x the display size when possible — platforms re-compress on upload.
- Keep key text and logos inside the safe area of each format to survive cropping.
- Use sRGB color profile so colors don't shift after upload.
- Name files descriptively (brand-campaign-asset.png) — some platforms index file names.
